Hi David,

I study internal martial arts, and have done so for 11 years. Bamboo is a symbol of flexible strength, which is what I believe democratic educational reformers must embrace if we are to realize significant policy change. We have to remain rooted in democratic principles (themselves debatable, but bamboo grows in a variety of soils, while at the same time remain willing to flex as called for in various situations. One of my problems with the critical theory of the past (and in some cases present) is that it is too militant, ultimately turning people off to the causes they support. Perhaps a little flexibility might help bring more people into the fold?

...and my wife recently took this picture in a bamboo forest in north GA, and I really love it...

I can change my name in my profile, though I go by Philip, and if you'd like a head shot instead of the bamboo, I can provide that as well....me being flexible and all ;)
